The Fantastic Four Synopsis Released

It looks like we may have our first official summary of the storyline for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming reboot of Marvel superhero series ‘The Fantastic Four.’

A more in-depth synopsis - purporting to give away the entire story of director Josh Trank’s film in detail - was leaked online earlier this month, almost certainly without studio approval.

By contrast, this new plot description has been posted on the film’s Rotten Tomatoes page and ends with a Fox copyright note, which would seem to bode well for its veracity.

Here’s how they sum up the long-controversial reboot:

"THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways.

"Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy."

The four young ‘outsiders’ are of course Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic (Miles Teller), Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman (Kate Mara), Johnny Storm/The Human Torch (Michael B Jordan), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Jamie Bell), whilst we can assume the friend turned enemy is the ‘reimagined’ Doctor Doom (Toby Kebbell).

Curiously, the Rotten Tomatoes page lists the sole screenwriter as Jeremy Slater, with no mention of writer/producer Simon Kinberg, who has become one of the key players in Fox’s Marvel movies (also writing and producing ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’).

Of course, there is a great deal that remains curious about ‘The Fantastic Four.’ The reboot has long been the cause of much fan anxiety, owing to the casting decisions and rumours of huge liberties being taken with the source material - and at least some of these rumours would appear to be confirmed by the mention that the four “teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form,” rather than being exposed to cosmic rays in outer space.

Whilst many of the most anticipated films of the next two years have already shared images and in some cases footage (‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ ‘Jurassic World,’ ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’), Fox have still yet to release so much as a single official photo from ‘The Fantastic Four,’ even though it is known the film has already completed principal photography.

Of course, as soon as the studio do release our first official glimpse of ‘The Fantastic Four’ (hitting screens August 2015), you’ll be seeing it here soon thereafter.
