Avengers 3 To Be Split Into Two Movies?

Marvel’s third ‘Avengers’ movie may follow the example of ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Twilight,’ ‘The Hunger Games’ et al by splitting into two separate movies, a report has claimed.

It has long been expected that the current, ongoing storyline across the Marvel Cinematic Universe is building up toward a big-screen retelling of ‘The Infinity Gauntlet,’ a 1991 comic book mini-series from writer Jim Starlin and artists George Pérez and Ron Lim.

This epic, intergalactic story encompasses pretty much every Marvel superhero there is in the struggle against the tyrannical Thanos (as portrayed by Josh Brolin, who made his first appearance in the role in this summer’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’).

Daily Marvelite claim to have learned from a source at Marvel that “the massive battle between earth’s mightiest heroes and the mad titan is so complicated and big that it will require a two part movie to give it its due.”

Daily Marvelite go on to speculate that the first part of this two-volume epic will be the as-yet unspecified film Marvel has earmarked for release in May 2018, with the conclusion coming in May 2019.

However, they concede “our source has not clarified is if Avengers 3 in itself will be a two part movie, or if it is the story that will be split into two,” suggesting the second film could see the anticipated team-up of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

However, as ComicBook.com note, this could be problematic given that the third ‘Avengers’ film marks the end of the contracts for at least two of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans – both of whom have suggested they intend to stand down once they’ve done their time.

Either way, this remains something to be taken with a big pinch of salt until Marvel themselves make any official statement on the matter – but it has to be said it does seem entirely plausible, given that this mega-movie will be what the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far has been building toward…

Before that, the Marvel Studios will bring us 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and 'Ant-Man' next summer.
